Assalamualikum

The Ghazal. The gem of Urdu Poetry, indeed. Ever since this ravishing verse-form was poured down from Persian into the molten contents of the Urdu kiln, it let itself be imbibed into such depths of the language, that gave it an incomplete-without-it integrity. But it was during the passage of time over the midst of the 18th and the 19th century, that it took the most sublime of its shapes. The Weavers, as i like to call them, along this period, primarily Mir and Ghalib, were to become the supreme deities of the Ghazal. They perfected, not only the structure, but also blessed it with such profundity of thought, that its legacy having flown over a massive-2oo years, still does not fail to mesmerise minds, naive and wise alike.

A lowly-but-happy acquirer of that bequest, as i am, I have here tried to share whatever ramblings it has inspired. With hopes that you'd be as-glad-as-taste-permits, i lay myself before you.

Faqt yeh dekhne patthar kahan se aata hai
Wo main hi hoon jo shish-mahal banaata hai
